The Sands Casino is located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. It is owned by Las Vegas-based Sands Corporation.
The company has a presence in Macau and Singapore and is planning a $4 billion casino project in Hengqin Island, China.
In addition to the 126-acre casino resort, Sands is also developing a 300,000-square-foot adventure and water park. The casino is expected to open in June 2009.
The history of the casino
Before becoming a global casino empire, Sands Casino had a very unique history. It was a cosmopolitan resort that attracted gamblers, celebrities and visitors from around the world.
According to gaming historian David Schwartz, the Sands Casino consciously targeted gamblers and their needs. This included advertising that the Sands was a place where “the gambler won or lost the money, not the other way around,” he writes.
When business tycoon Howard Hughes arrived in Las Vegas, he quickly purchased the Sands. In the early 1960s, he implemented a number of changes to Sands, including eliminating gamblers’ privileges of easy credit and anonymity.
The casino was also famous for its connections with reputed mobsters, which made it a target for the FBI. This made it an attractive destination for a variety of performers, including Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack.
The design of the casino
During its heyday, the 샌즈카지노쿠폰 was an iconic Las Vegas landmark. It opened in December 1952 and was built to a design by Wayne McAllister. It had a prominent 56-foot (17 m) high sign and was a popular destination for entertainers.
It was consciously marketed to gamblers, a term that we now call high rollers. During the hotel’s opening, Danny Thomas and Jimmy McHugh performed in the Copa Room and Ray Sinatra played in the house band.
The Sands was part of a trend that was sweeping the city, as it grew in size and corporate influence. It was owned by Sheldon Adelson, who envisioned a Las Vegas that could draw millions of visitors to conventions.
Its ambition was to be the template for future resorts in Vegas. With a 1.1 million-square-foot convention center, the Sands became a symbol of corporate ambition and the casino business. It also served as a test bed for the company’s ambitions in expanding abroad.
The gaming options at the casino
At the casino, you’ll find a huge variety of games. From slots to table games to live sports betting, you’ll find it all here.
The most popular games include the PowerBucks slot game from IGT that gives you the chance to win a million bucks in a single spin. There are also plenty of games with progressive jackpots, which can pay out hundreds of thousands or even millions of dollars over time.
Another big draw is Sands Bethlehem’s high-tech stadium terminals that are programmed to offer a full range of virtual games, including horse racing, greyhounds, speedway and motor racing. The programmable display also allows for a multi-lingual tutorial in English, Mandarin and Spanish.
The hotel at the casino
The hotel at Sands Casino is a lower-middle-range property that features a friendly staff and a casino housing slot machines, card tables, and a Bingo parlor. It also has a seasonal outdoor pool, a fitness center, and several lounges and restaurants.
The rooms are spacious and pleasant with carpeted floors, blue accent walls, small flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi. However, decor is dated and rooms could be cleaner.
Guests can enjoy a variety of dining options on-site including a 1950s style diner, a Mexican restaurant, and a prime rib buffet. The hotel also has a seasonal outdoor pool and a whirlpool with panoramic windows that offer mountain views.
As part of its expansion in the US, Sands has been linked to rumors about a potential casino project in Manhattan or Queens near Citi Field. It has since dismissed those reports.
